Today we are going back to our series Advertising Blunders Explained by Buzz Online to discuss the biggest complaint I hear about online advertising. It usually starts with something like this:
Them: “I tried advertising online, but it didn’t work.”
Me: “What did you want your advertising to do?”
Them: “I don’t know.”
Me: 🤦♀️
With online advertising, you can’t just turn the ad on and let it go, hoping it will do what you want. Just like you can’t just turn on a car and hope it gets you where you want to go. You must have a plan or a goal or “It won’t work.”
Online advertising is like everything in life, setting a goal before you start is the best way to get what you want. Let me explain.
If your goal is to tell people in your area that you are open, then impression ads are what you want. Facebook and Google Display ads are designed to show as many people your ad as possible, so advertising on either would help you reach your goal.
If your goal is to make more sales quickly, Google Search ads are what you want. These ads show people when they are actively looking for your service, so people are more likely to buy sooner than someone scrolling past an impression ad on Facebook.
In conclusion, if you want to be successful when advertising online, know what you want before you start or I guarantee you, your ads “won’t work!”
That’s all I have for today. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. I offer free, no obligation consultations so if you want to discuss your online advertising, just let me know.
